This audiovideo work is driven by a Max/MSP and Jitter patch. While in Santa Barbara for my PhD interviews, I escaped to the mountains and took a time lapse video overlooking the 154.
When I returned from my trip I broke the video down into its frames and devised an algorithm to navigate through the folder by an envelope follower. The audio for this piece comes from a live manipulation of Grimes' "California" which drives the entire piece.
The result is an experience of stasis with the cars cutting through the scene conveying the idiom, "one step forward, two steps back."
